| MetroPCS is one of the lowest price providers of cell phone service in
the United States. However, it is a little harder to complete the
activation process with MetroPCS as compared to other services. If you
follow the instructions below, you will be able to activate your phone. You
must go to a MetroPCS service center in order to activate your phone,
below are instructions on how to find a service center close to you, as
well as some things to do to make sure it goes smoothly when you
arrive.
Three Steps to Activate your MetroPCS Phone:
1. Get the ESN Number of the Phone.
Take the battery off of the
phone and look for the ESN number on the label the battery was covering.
Models vary, but all of them either show the ESN as an 11 digit number
in Decimal format (sometimes abbreviated DEC) or in Hexadecimal format
which is a combination of letters and numbers that is 8 digits in
length. MetroPCS can work with either one. It is not the serial number which
is usually designated “S/N” or the FCC ID number.

2. Locate Your Local MetroPCS Service Center. MetroPCS has stores
that they own and are service centers. They also authorize cell phone
stores to sell their service, however, they can not activate your phone
for you, you MUST go to a Service Center. To find a service center go
to thier store locator (Store Locator) and select your city or put in
your zip code. Then click on "Service Centers" and it will display the
service centers in your area, make sure that the MetroPCS logo is above
their address, only choose the stores with the MetroPCS logo, the other
stores cannot help you. Find the one you would like to go to and give
them a call and do the next step.
3. Call Before You Go.
Call the store and tell them the following:
I purchased a phone that was previously used on MetroPCS and I want to
use it for my service, can you help me with that" They may ask you a
few questions. First, they may ask for the esn number, just give them
the esn number of the phone. Second, they may ask if it is a MetroPCS
phone, tell them that it was previously used on MetroPCS. Get the
person's name that assissted you and this will eliminate any problems once
you arrive. In the event that they tell you that you can not activate
the phone, call another service center with the MetroPCS logo. This
rarely happens, however, we have heard stories from other customers that
one store would not activate the phone and another one would.
Please Read: I believe that MetroPCS sees eBay as their biggest
competitor with regards to phone sales and they seem to exhibit a tendency at
some stores to mislead people about the phones they purchase from eBay.
We have heard many stories from people that are told by one store that
something is wrong with their phone or that it can not be activated, to
drive to another store an activate the phone without problem. I would
just caution you to not take their criticisms too seriously.
